Hyatt Islandia Pedestrian Bridge
Expansion at the Hyatt Islandia Hotel in downtown San Diego required a new 65’-0” x 6’-0” pedestrian bridge. Given the marine environment, the client did not want to use a typical prefabricated steel bridge which would be subject to corrosion in this application. Our lightweight fiberglass bridge system was chosen because it could withstand the demands of the harsh saltwater environment. A custom white color with a urethane clear coat finish was used to meet the architectural requirements of the project. In order to provide this feature, the pedestrian bridge had to be fully assembled in the shop before applying the clear coat finish. The bridge was then shipped fully assembled across the country to the job site. At the site, the teak railing and IPE decking were installed. Installation and finish work were completed in 2 days.
